Do you BELIEVE in LOVE at first sight?

Superbena Royale verbenas are vigorous and mounded, but will trail over the sides of containers.  They will function as both spillers and fillers in combination planters and are best planted at the front of landscape beds.  Flower and umbel size are typical for verbena.  They will bloom earlier in the season and more easily produceable in smaller containers than regular Superbena varieties.

    Maintenance Notes:

    Self-cleaning, no deadheading necessary.

Superbena are our most vigorous, heat tolerant, and mildew tolerant series. While always great in containers they are also fantastic in landscape beds. They can tolerate dry soils and lower fertility. Normally either an application of slow release fertilizer or amending with compost is enough to keep them happy and blooming in landscape beds. They shouldn't need to be trimmed back but can be given a "haircut" - a trim back - using a sharp pair of scissors or pruning shears at any time. While naturally well branched, trimming them back will encourage additional branching, fuller plants, and ultimately more flowers. I usually give them a very slight trim as I am transplanting to boost branching.

An application of fertilizer or compost on garden beds and regular fertilization of plants in pots will help ensure the best possible performance.

    • Ok so I reviewed this plant a few months ago and I just wanted to change my review. Unfortunately that’s not a possibility but I can write a new, good one! I mostly expected my plant was dead, but I thought, “the other reviews talk about how tough this guy is, and I have usually trusted proven winners in the past.” So I kept watering and hoping. After a while, it did come back! I wish I could post pictures with this because I would love to show everyone how amazing it’s doing now. It’s still a fairly small plant but the fact that it basically came back from the dead and is covered in blooms now really impresses me. I never should have doubted.

Outstanding My favorite plant, I recommend to others all the time and explain the reasons why I like it so much.
    • I have grown superbena in containers in the past without much success. They would wither and disappear. I decided to give them one more chance and bought Superbena Royale Chambray. I am impressed! As advertised, they are both a filler and spiller, trailing down the container easily over 12”. They have bloomed consistently, even when I forgot to water. They survived the month-long spell of rain we had in July without any sign of rot. Best surprise of all is that these are mildly fragrant, which I didn’t see anyone else mention (?). Would definitely buy again. Hope I can find them next year!

    • I’m so disappointed. I thought for sure this plant would be fine, since I trust this brand. And I really do, usually. Perhaps it’s the nursery’s fault but my plant just dried up and seems to have died. I’m really hoping there’s still some life in it left and it comes back somehow but I don’t have high hopes. I honestly came here expecting to see other reviews because I wondered if perhaps it was a bad batch. But maybe it’s just me. I will say my other proven winner plants are doing just fine. Like I mentioned, I still trust this brand. Just bad luck with this super verbena.

Marginally Adequate Performed below expectations but may be willing to try again.
    • Started buying this fella in 2016, when to my utter dismay, PW discontinued the Royale Silverdust Superbena. Chambray is more violet than blue but the color is vibrant and the blooms prolific. Typical Superbena by PW in terms of durability, longevity and performance. Definitely more a trailer and even shows some hints of being good ground cover. All this chap needs is water, regular fertilizer and a great deal of sun. Only complaint...why did you discontinue Royale Silverdust? It was the closest thing to a true blue verbena...anywhere! My neighbors even commented! Still Royale Chambray is an excellent choice and top performer.

    • Long-blooming, beautiful color. I mix them with darker and lighter "blues" and some pale and bright yellow.

    • I have grown this plant several years ago, an it did exceptionally well until I added more plants, it started to thin out and did not do so well. but it comes back every year adding a little accent here and there.
